We departed the Park of the Sierras this morning and headed south on sr41 to Bakersfield and took sr 58 east. On the way down, we saw all kinds of things being grown and harvested. All kinds of nuts, thousands of acres of grapes and hundreds of acres of grapes that had been covered with sheets of clear plastic. I do not know why unless it was to keep the birds out or something else. Most of the grape vines were left uncovered. We saw many orange groves and truck loads of oranges going to the processing plant. We even saw them picking cotton and cultivating fields and planting crops. It seems it all happens at the same time, so apparently you grow and harvest all at the same time, only different crops.

We picked up road 99 at Fresno which is like an interstate, only not in very good condition. After heading east on 58 we could see mountains in the distance and by the time we reached Techachapi at an altitude of over 4000 feet from about 400 feet in Bakersfield. We could see the smoog in the mountains until we got to the east side whee it cleared up.

It was down and across the desert past Edwards AFB to the town of Boron where we are currently parked.

Now, we are watching TV to see how the elections are developing and how the Congress will look like after it is all over.
