Thursday, we got to Kingman, AZ and all settled in to a local campground a few blocks from the hamfest site. When I turned on the computer, the internet service was so slow that I had difficulty even getting my home page to come up before it timed out.
Friday we moved to the hamfest site and set up. Business was relatively slow on Friday and it was even slower on Saturday. No one seemed to know the problem, just no one showed up except a few that came early and stayed late. There was a nice number of tailgaters, but no buyers. We made more than we spent, so I guess it was alright, but probably not next year unless we are in town.
Sunday morning it was up and back on the road again. We went through old town Kingman on Route 66 and picked up road 93 on our way to Las Vegas, NV.
We wanted to check out the new bridge at the Hoover Dam. Evelyn was reluctant to go across it until she had a chance to look at it first.
They have built a new road 93 around the dam through the mountains and onto this new bridge. We enjoyed the new road, dual lane divided, and before you know it, you look to your right and below you is the Hoover Dam. You are already on the bridge and did not even realize it.
what a marvelous bit of engineering. There is even a walkway on the east side of the bridge so you can walk out and see the dam below. Way down under the bridge is a parking garage where you can walk up several flights of stairs to the walkway and the view, I am sure is spectacular.
We got off of 93 and drove down the old road and across the dam, turned around and came back. Of course we had to go through an inspection before we could cross the dam.
What an interesting drive across the dam and see all that goes on there as far as generating electricity for Las Vegas and other areas near by. You can see in the bottom photo the high water like on the rock mountains as the lake is quite low, but should be better after the snow melt and spring rains come.
