Saturday we did not do very much, just go to the Post Office and stop by the grocery for a few things. Later in the day Evelyn helped Ed & Bonnie move some things to Dick's new apartment. Later in the evening we took the binoculars and looked out across the valley at the towns several miles away and watched them come alive as the sun went down and the street lights came on. The big ADM Ethanol plant has a glow all of its own. Lots of grain trucks pass here every day hauling corn to the plant for processing.

The predictions for corn production in this area is down a little, maybe less that 200 bushels to the acre due to the lack of rain fall at critical times. Many of the fields are irrigated which helps, but not as much as rain with all of its nitrogen.

This morning we went to church and then to the Great Plains Cafe for brunch. good food as always as well as good fellowship.

We went to the tractor and machinery show that was in town for the weekend. Lots of old tractors and equipment, some in "as is" condition as well as many that had been restored to near new condition. It seems that John Deere tractors are the most popular, maybe because they are still in production and there were so many built that replacement parts are still available.

In our photographs you see an old one row corn picker being pulled by a Farmall Super M tractor. Also a self propelled Masey Harris combine that looked to be in usable condition even though it is quite old.

Also you see a Cub Cadet tractor on steel wheels. It sure looked like a bumpy ride along the gravel drive. Looked like he used it to compete in pulling contests with the cleats on the rear wheels.

Everyone seemed to be having a good time showing and looking at all of the equipment on display and listening to it run. It really takes you back a few years and brings back lots of memories.
