We left Boomland Campgound and headed for the wilds of western Kentucky via US60 and then on some back roads, that you have to carefully follow directions. After a couple of road changes we wind up on Coon Trail Road to the first drive on the left designated as Cradick Lane. The last turn on Coon Trail Road is a one lane with fallen trees on both sides that have been pushed just off the pavement so you can get through.
We followed the severe ice storm damage all the way from central Arkansas up through the bootheel of Missouri into western Kentucky. Our photos are of our cousins house showing the damaged trees, of which they have cleaned up the limbs that fell in the yard. Today the people arrived to do some ceiling work and painting from the water damage as a result of the hole in the roof. The roofers were to be there today as well and get that part taken care of. They will have the loggers come in in May and cut the trees that do not come out, many of which are hard wood and large enough to sell for veneer.
There are many smaller trees that are down in the pond and they will have to be cut off at the ground and then pulled out of the water with a tractor. There is a lot of clean up yet to be done.
We noticed that many of the state roads still had the ditches full of brush and limbs and this is 8 weeks after the storm. We did notice that some of the city parks and areas had been cleared and were ready to mow, but a lot of work remains to be done.
As we crossed into Indiana and headed north up SR57 we noticed that the time had changed again. So we have lost another hour due to day light savings time. It was getting dark and starting to rain so we just holed up in Spencer, IN, only a couple of hours from Fishers, our destination, so it will be an easy run tomorrow morning.
