The day started with bright sun that was warm but the air and shade was quite cool. You needed a jacket if you were out of the sun very long.
I finished my project that I started yesterday. The brackets I had welded up I painted black yesterday in the afternoon and this morning I finished the assembly. You can see the finished project in the first two photos. It is quite sturdy and I mounted the brackets on hinges so they will fold up for compact storage when off the chair. The brackets slide into a 1"x1" square tubing that is used for leg supports, however they sure work well for the mounting of the tray. The leg support brackets attach to the frame of the chair.
This after noon we attended the Handicapped Travel Club, Mesa Lunch Bunch, luncheon. This month it was held at Joe's Real BBQ in Gilbert, AZ, just a few minutes south of where we are staying in Mesa. Joe has Pecan smoked brisket as well as pork. Both really delicious. They also have huge baked potatoes as well as baked sweet potatoes. The baked potatoes are topped with butter, sour cream, cheese, and or your choice of a cup of BBQ pork or brisket piled on the top. A meal and a half in its self. I had a brisket sandwich with Cole slaw and apple crisp with ice cream to finish it off. They had some really good looking smoked ribs but I was not that hungry. They had all kinds of sides as well as pickles, peppers, anything you could imagine. We had 12 in attendance, which is about average for this group. Generally we have a few more in the winter months as the snowbirds are in town.
After lunch we met a couple of fellows back at Nancy's house to put together 450 issues of the Polio Echo newsletter. They had to be folded, those little plastic circle used to tape them and then address labels put on and all kept in zip code numerical rotation for the Post Office. The out of town ones had to be sorted separate from those in Phoenix but all had to be in zip code rotation so they would machine properly. If they are not counted correctly, then we have to go back, get them, recount them and then take them back. What a waste of time for both the Post Office and the customer. Why not just run them through and charge us for the additional ones or give us credit. Well, that is the way our government runs.
This last photo is typical of a sunset here in Arizona most every evening. It is even more spectacular if there is more clouds in the sky. But, when it gets dark,it gets dark quickly. If there are no clouds in the sky, darkness falls in about 20 to 30 minutes after bright sunshine. It certainly beats the sunsets in Indiana this time of year.
