Today being Sunday, we decided to take a short trip to Lordsburg to see our friend Harry Butts. It was a brisk but beautiful morning and traveling west was very comfortable, with the sun to our back. Harry is in the Sunshine Haven nursing home. He seems to be doing pretty good, getting along well with his prostheses and when we wanted to get his picture he had to stand up for us. He says he can get dressed by himself and he can get around in his wheelchair. When I asked about walking, he says he can walk with his walker with the help of the nurse. So I gather he has a ways to go with his walking. We said goodbye to
Harry and decided to travel north on rd 90 to Silver City. A few miles before we got to town we saw where they were working piling up the tailing's from the silver mine. What a mountain of dirt and rock. We were unable to see the actual silver mine called the Tyrone mine. The city is rather small but very clean and nice. After you leave town on rd 180 toward Deming, there is another mine where they were actually working the tailings hauling in large quarry dump trucks and large graders were spreading out the debiis. They have it all terraced up and it looks very nice and hopefully they will Plant some vegetation to make it even more attractive.
The trip back to Deming was relatively straight and level. We did cross the Continental Divide a few miles before we got to Lordsburg on I10 so we did gain some altitude on our way west. It was not marked on the roads back, but it appeared to be somewhere before we got to Silver City.
We had an ice cream social this evening at 6pm so I will take my computer with me and try to get back on the Internet and get these blogs caught up.
