Our trip to Deming was uneventful. We traveled south on I25 and took sr26 southwest toward Deming. The first 3 or 4 miles is pretty rough with lots of grades but then it leveled out and was a fairly easy drive.
We left the intestate at Hatch and apparently the Chilies are ripe as the town was filled with places selling Chili ristras. It appeared that they would have maybe 100 chilies in each one. This was a very fertile valley and there was water available and obviously would grow chilies very well. We also saw several pecan groves in the area. You do not normally think of this part of the country as big in pecans. We passed 3 or 4 huge dairies. I would estimate that there were three to four hundred Holstein cows at each facility as well as tons of hay and silage covered with large white plastic covers. There were large covered areas where they apparently milk the cows. One would think that they would have to milk 24 hours a day to take care of that many cows.
We arrived at Dream Catcher a little after noon and got set up. we went to the Social hour at 4pm and met a lot of the others that are here as well. Went back at 7pm to play Mexican train, but they play a bit differently and as soon as we got accustomed to the changes it was really a lot of fun.
Our photo is of the dam at Elephant Butte reservoir. It is obvious that it is not holding any water back as the water level is so low.
Saturday we went to Walmart and had 2 new tires put on the van, did some shopping, found a couple of nice shirts and returned to the park after getting the van washed. Not much going on at Social hour as they had a breakfast this morning from 8 to 9am, but that was too early for us.
